Most public libraries are overrun in the summer months with children participating in a summer reading program. Why not take advantage of this great opportunity and reach out to another group — their parents!

Calgary Public Library recently launched their first ever summer reading program for adults: Just for Adults – Read All Summer! The program was a great success because of effective promotional material, staff support and enthusiasm, and our young library customers who promoted the program to their parents so that they could read and participate together.

The presenter will discuss the history of reading promotion programming at CPL, leading up to the recent program: Just for Adults Read all Summer! Goals and objectives of this program will be discussed, along with the step-by-step details of the organization, promotion, implementation and evaluation. Participants will leave this session with inspiration for implementing an adult summer reading program of their own!
