It’s not as simple as mystery, fantasy, sci-fi, western, romance anymore. Genres, subgenres, genre-blends - it can be hard to keep it all straight in the ever changing world of fiction. This session will go beyond simply telling you “vampires are a hot topic this year” to give you an understanding of the new genres that your patrons will be asking for.

  • Fiction Selectors
The Key Benefits For Participants:
  • Participants will see how genre can work together with appeal factors to answer RA questions.
  • Participants will gain awareness of new and emerging genres: what they are and who is reading them.
  • Participants will learn about current trends in genres and genre-blending and see how traditional genres fit into the changing landscape.
  • Participants will gain knowledge of new and emerging authors and series.
Key Topics to be Explored:
  • Why is genre knowledge still important in RA work?
